My Story

Thank you for supporting our team for the Oxford Legal Walk 2024.

Our team is: Jo Fever, Judy Matthews, Rod Fowler, Daisy Meekings, Jaiddie Byles

We are taking on a sponsored 10km walk on Monday 3rd July to raise funds for advice agencies in Oxfordshire.

At the end of 2023, 4 million families (34% of all those on low incomes) were sitting on debts used explicitly to help pay for food, housing costs and other household bills.

As the cost of living has risen dramatically, the money raised by our Walk will go a long way in supporting our local agencies to ensure they can keep the lights on, and doors open for people like Gemma.

Gemma, a single mother, faced an agonizing dilemma when her newborn arrived with severe health issues from Covid. Unable to work, her benefits were slashed by the cap, which hits Oxford residents hard due to high rent. A local free legal advice agency intervened, tirelessly advocating for disability benefits. After a gruelling battle, they secured the lifeline Gemma desperately needed, sparing her from the cap's cruelty with disability benefit's and a carer's allowance. This victory wasn't just about money; it was about giving Gemma the precious time to care for her sick baby without the crushing pressure to return to work. Thanks to you walking the walk in Oxford, local people like Gemma will continue to receive life-changing legal advice.

There are many marginalisedpeople in the local area who rely on help from these agencies.

Please sponsor our walkers as generously as you are able.

Many thanks for your support.
