LawCare
My Story
Thank you for supporting our team in fundraising for the 2025 London Legal Walk. We will be taking on 10km on Tuesday 17th June to help those in need gain access to life-changing free legal advice.
Our team is: Rose Donnelly, Andrew Darnton, Anna Buttimore, Elizabeth Rimmer, Amanda Simpson, Claire Rason, Jacqui Roch, Henry Nelson-Case, Lucinda Soon, Jayne Willetts
We are walking with the Lady Chief Justice and thousands of lawyers to raise funds for the London Legal Support Trust (LLST) and LawCare. Last year, LLST's special 20th anniversary Walk raised a record breaking £1million, which supported thousands of people accessing justice.
Many people across the UK cannot afford legal help and are at risk of going without justice when they need it most. One fifth (21%) of the UK population live in poverty - equivalent to around 14 million people.
LawCare is the mental health charity for the legal sector, offering free, confidential emotional support, peer support, and information to people working in law in the UK, the Channel Isands, and the Isle of Man. LawCare also advocates for improvements in mental health practices within legal workplaces, and actively leads cultural transformation through education, training, and research.
LawCare offers a safe and confidential space to talk, without judgement, whether you're just having a bad day, or you are facing something more long lasting. All LawCare's helpline volunteers and staff have experience in the legal sector and understand the particular pressures that you may face. If you need support, call LawCare on 0800 279 6888, email [email protected], or visit www.lawcare.org.uk to use the live online chat. LawCare's website also has lots of information (articles, stories, videos and podcasts) on mental health and wellbeing.
The London Legal Support Trust raises funds to help maintain free legal advice charities in London and the South East. Your donation supports the agencies' direct advice services, who will help people like Mike.
Mike moved into a flat owned by the housing association in 1996, but unbeknown to him, his employers had taken a sub-lease on the flat. In law, his employer had become his landlord. Twenty years later, Mike faced eviction from his home after his employer had gone into liquidation. This meant at the same time, he had also lost his job with no redundancy pay. His wife had also recently passed away. Mike sought help from a private solicitor and was initially told he had no case. Mike reached out to one of our Centres of Excellence (COEx) through their Court Duty Scheme.
With their expert advice, Mike's tenancy rights were successfully defended, proving his home was independent of his job. As a result, his landlords settled, and he was offered a new, more suitable home nearby from the housing association.
Every step we take and every penny we raise brings us closer to a community where justice and support are accessible to all.
Please sponsor our walkers as generously as you are able.
Many thanks for your support.
